Interesting adaptation except ...


The prologue at the beginning was redundant (everything covered in it is gone over again later anyway), and it took time away that could have been used to present the opera in its entirety instead of using a cheap and chippy chopper on the score.

I also found the prologue quite distracting and was tempted to turn off the operetta. It took so long for some action and dialogue, I thought I was watching a silent movie!

I agree with you both, and I almost turned it off too. But while I was watching it I realized the "prologue" was the overture music. I guess instead of just playing the music, the director thought it needed visuals.
