I adore this film - when will it ever be released on DVD?

I too, adore this movie watch it over and over and never tire of it. I'd practically worn out my vhs copy and managed to record it on dvd from TCM. But I keep hoping it will be released on a special edition dvd. I'm surprised that there weren't more messages posted on this board. There must be more fans out there? They have just released "The Palm Beach Story" so maybe this will be coming soon. I find this movie much funnier. Such great and witty dialogue. One of my favrite lines is when Eve says to Mary Aster's charactor when she trying on the hat "IT GIVES YOU A CHIN" that gets me every time. And I think John Barrimore practically steals the show. I hope someone else will join in on this board.

I agree carolyn-18 that this is funnier than Palm Beach Story. I can't believe that there aren't more people clammering to get this released on dvd - maybe not enough people have seen it.

This is one of those movies I would like to own on a DVD, one of those perfect films to watch on a rainy sunday afternoon. I've only seen in twice, around 1989-1991 on TV.
Colbert, Ameche, Barrymore, Astor.... well they can't produce casts like that anymore.
Though I can't remember the Hedda Hopper role, or maybe more correct, I didn't thought of her as Hedda Hopper, very interesting though.

On Wikipedia I also learned that this movie was remade as "Masquerade in Mexico" in 1945, I didn't know that, and I've never seen that version.

I didn't know that "Midnight" had been remade. However it shouldn't surprise me since everything seems to be remade sooner or later. BTW, Hedda Hopper played the hostess of the party that Eve crashed in the begining of the movie.

If you get Turner Classic Movies they show on there every once in awhile. That is where I recorded it from.

I live in the UK and only get TCM after 9:00pm so I am not likely to ever see it, unless they show it on terrestrial TV. It seems that TCM in England is not as good as in the US either. Fortunately I have it recorded from many years ago when they used to show classic films a lot more.

I have never seen the remake either. I can't imagine it could hold a candle to the original.

I remember reading somewhere (unfortunately I can't recall where) that it was once released on VHS, but I've never heard anything about a DVD release - which is too bad, because it's great. I've only ever seen it on TVO's "Saturday Night at the Movies", but if it were available, I'd buy it in an instant.

It's a crime against humanity that this isn't on DVD!

Wow! I love the Palm Beach Story, so saying that this is funnier is certainly setting a high bar. However I will say that Don Ameche doesn't hold a candle to Joel McCrea...He was such a hottie! Still, I got this on vhs from my local library tonight so I can't wait to dig in!

To date there is no word on this classic film coming out on DVD.

Great moments including the tart humor of Hedda Hopper and the nuanced work of Mary Astor [she is rather touching as the woman in love with a gigolo]. Colbert has nice chemistry with Ameche and the wonderful Barrymore, who should have been nominated for an Oscar.

I guess by now everyone knows the DVD was released in April 2008. Hope you all got a copy, I did!!

Incidentally, the remake MASQUERADE IN MEXICO starred Dorothy Lamour and was directed by the same director, Mitchell Leisen. It is not bad but of course it would be impossible to remake it as good as the original. The remake is something of a musical.
