Lombard and Stewart Were Made For Each Other!
Just love their chemistry. Wish they'd been able to team up again, but very grateful for this wonderful movie.

shareI know I'm responding to an old post but I'm just watching this movie for the first time. You're correct - they really play well off each other. She's just luminous.
shareI used to be more ambivalent about Stewart, feeling his only real chemistry was with Donna Reed, in fact with her holding up most of that herself. But eventually I got around to Liberty Valence, and that was okay, too, in the chemistry department. ANd of course there is the obvious example of Vertigo, but again I tend to give most of the credit there in terms of chemistry to Kim Novak (Vertigo is an excellent film, one of the greatest. But imo Stewart's value to the film is more about his psychological portrayal than about the interaction with his female lead.)
But with Lombard there is excellent chemistry. I finally got to see this one having recorded the recent showing on TCM, and am very glad I did. The absence of a more typical Lombard screwball comedy was not really a problem. She is excellent in this film.
She was absolutely radiant. She certainly left us too soon.
shareITA, she was wonderful. When she discovers that her baby is dying and she fall to pieces, she had me in tears, she totally conveyed the feelings a mother feels.
