False note

I didn't mind the zigzagging back and forth from comedy to suspense, but one thing did jump out at me as a false note.

When Williams' character comes home to find his butler tied up and gagged, he banters wittily with him while untying him, without asking if Virgina Weidler's character is OK. She isn't even mentioned or seen until considerably later in the scene.

Wouldn't any adult character (and a character we are supposed to like, no less -- our hero!), who came home to find the only adult in the house bound and gagged, think first about the child in his care, and be terrified that she'd been hurt or kidnapped?

I know that part of the unrealistic fun of the film is that even the kid is tough and fearless, but that was a bit much!
