The Ending (Spoiler)

Did anyone else think the fact that it was Irene pretending to be Russian could have been written more dramatically and, therefore, more effectively?

Proof comes when she produces the Omaha souvenir. It would have been more dramatic if it were not revealed by Irene. The revelation could have been unintentional or due to Harry's discovery of it.

The mystery of her true identity is the central plot point, but the film seems to just give it away, almost as an afterthought.

I thought at one point 'Harry Van' (played by Gable), after exposing her as a phony, and she was still in character, he was going to snatch the blonde wig from her head. I guess that was her actual hair, just bleached.

Yeah, I agree. What does she say, "Maybe I was in Omaha a little." uh... really? That's it? That was the big reveal? Horrible. It should have been some sort of slip up on her part. Or when they were in physical danger at the end she breaks down and tells him. Or at least spill it with a clever line. something.
