Pegg can handle action on a comical note like in Hot Fuzz, so why not here. He may not be as handsome as Cary Grant but he's appealing enough and really Ballantine has to be the pretty boy of the trio, since he is the one getting hitched.

But it has already been remade (as a western, well cavalry film) - Sergeants 3 with Sinatra, Martin and Lawford as the sergeants and Sammy Davis Jr in the Gunga Din role, but as a bugler, not a water carrier.
shareSigh! I do think the real problem is that no one is like Cary Grant today, nor the others including Ciannelli and the rest. Besides the movie would turn into a CGI-fest. Nothwithstanding that comment -- I would love to see a genuine attempt.

I don't see Chopra playing that sort of character. Maybe Kunal Nayyar from "The Big Bang Theory" or Dev Patel from Slumdog Millionaire.
