Soundtrack didn't win Oscar?!

I mean now considered one of the greatest film soundtracks of all time by Max Steiner. I get it, it was competing with Wizard of Oz, but they should have had a double Oscar. Of course it did sweep 8 Oscars. They should also have had a special Oscar for Butterfly McQueen (Prissy) for having the fakest sounding high-pitched voice in movie history ("Oh, Miss Scarlett, I don't know nuthin' 'bout birthin' babies")!

I don't know what to tell you. Sometimes the Oscars just didn't make the decisions we wanted them to. Frankly 3 of my least favorite academy award decisions are Sean Connery winning for the Untouchables over Morgan Freeman in Street Smart and Denzel Washington in Cry Freedom, Jack Palance winning an Oscar for City Slickers over Tommy Lee Jones in JFK and Ben Kingsley in Bugsy, and Tommy Lee Jones winning for the Fugitive over Ralph Fiennes in Schindler's List, John Malkovich in In the Line of Fire, and Leonardo DiCaprio in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. But then again those all happened when I was too young to even appreciate an Oscar worthy movie.

I bought the soundtrack, and it stinks. Really! Tara's theme is gorgeous but the rest of the soundtrack is just noodling by the orchestra to provide emotion to certain scenes.

It was nominated. It lost to The Wizard of Oz.
