I've got to agree with you - amazing performance - and makeup! For Cobb to pull this off, and so effectively, is true testimony to his acting ability.

I'd heard that John Garfield had also been considered for this role; I can imagine him doing an effective, even excellent job, but I doubt anyone could have surpassed Cobb's performance - a real gem!

Cobb was a stand out in the film for sure. I bought him as an older gentleman.
