I was excited that Gaslight was on until...

I realized it was the 1940 version without Angela...ugh!

Repeat until dead "I HAVE BEEN BRAINWASHED BY AMERICAN CINEMA AND IM SO SMALL MINDED AND LACKING INTELLECTUALLY THAT I REFUSE TO WATCH ANYTHING MADE OUTSIDE THE USA HOWEVER ARTISTICALLY SUPERIOR AND ENJOYABLE"

reply

Yep---some folks need that stamped back and forth on their foreheads.

I have the same reaction when I realize once again the 1944 version is showing and NOT the superior original 1940 version! Much as I love Angela Lansbury there is much more to love in the original British version. The WB version is played ad-nauseum on our classic movie station. This original and superior version is it not played nearly enough in the states.

From my phone, voice to text so don't go grammar nazi on me if it isn't perfect.

I like both versions and don't see one as being particularly superior to the other but I do question the need for the second version. Not only did the producers not improve upon the original, it was released a scant four years after the original. I am guessing the second one was made to fill the American niche market.

Actually I think that Catherine Cordell as Nancy is good in this version. I like her cheeky toothy grin and the way she says a posh-sounding "How vulgeer" at the can-can dancers.
