Characters' Names Vary From Version to Version

Interestingly, the names of the two main characters vary from version to version of GASLIGHT:

In the original stage version, ANGEL STREET, produced in London in 1938 and New York in 1941, their names are Jack Manningham and Bella Manningham (Vincent Price played Jack Manningham).

In the 1940 film version (perhaps due to the casting of Anton Walbrook, who was definitely not English?), the names have been changed to Paul Mallen and Bella Mallen.

In 1944 they have become Gregory Anton (Charles Boyer) and Paula Alquist Anton (Ingrid Bergman).

It's a pity that Vincent Price's Manningham character wasn't preserved on film. I would loved to have seen him all oily and treacherous driving Judith Evelyn insane.

I think that the fact that he wasn't star material in 1944 meant that he didn't get the part of Gregory in the MGM version. And of course he was a Fox player at the time.
