Ribbons

No idea if anyone still comes onto these boards, but I just watched this for the first time in maybe 20 years and still absolutely loved it. Maybe even more than when i was a kid. I was wondering though if anyone knows what the ribbons are that are pinned to their jackets? They can be seen most clearly at the beginning at the Inn (one gets stuck on the back of Stans jacket) and when they are re-dressed after quitting. They seem to have the letters AI on them. Is this some kind of in-joke or political reference they wanted to slip in, or something of its time that we no longer practice? Found them very obvious yet they are never mentioned.
