Excellent movie! Maybe it influenced 'Lost' ...

I know it was re-made (haven't seen the remake) but this first version is very good. It has some of the elements of "Lost'- a group stranded in an exotic location, under attack by mysterious enemies, and someone has to stay behind (Bernard and Rose, anyone?). I was surprised how gripping this movie was, I started watching it on TCM one day out of sheer boredom, and by the end, my palms were sweating! It's a small forgotten treasure, and if you are reading this post, I recommend it highly.

I actually watched it because people said it had influenced Lost. I could see no resemblance at all (shipwreck stories have been around for centuries and the enemies were not mysterious). I was happy it was nothing like Lost. Much shorter with a better pay-off.

Plane crash in the jungle, a criminal being brought back to face justice, an older couple deciding to stay behind, they are threatened by unseen outside forces. There are other elements but considering the length of the film and the number of characters I'd say there are lots of similar elements.
