Shades of Frankenstein!

I bet a lot of movie goers back then were outraged or horrified when they saw a dead man being hooked up to electrodes and wires to make his hand complete a message with a pencil and paper.

Electricity was still a mystery. People thought lightening came from God, therefore it had the power to bring life to the dead.
