Movie shown in prison

I'm guessing it was a Warner Brothers' film - any idea what film was showing when the guy got stabbed?

The title of the film appeared clearly on screen and it was Wings of the Navy, another Warner Brothers release from that year. It's not really worth seeking out if you were considering it; it's really just typical pre-war propaganda in standard semidocumentary style - but at least Olivia de Havilland is in it.

If I could drop dead right now, I'd be the happiest man alive.

It seemed interesting to me that these hardened, anti-establishment prisoners were shown politely, enthusiastically and repeatedly breaking into applause for the title of the film, for the shot of soldiers marching, and for planes flying overhead. It struck me as an unrealistic moment of propaganda, but perhaps even prisoners like these might have reacted that way in 1939.

You know the title of the film, but what they showed was an outtake from Leo Gorcey's sister's bridal shower.

I'm sure they were hardened guys, but seeing ANY movie was a treat. I'm sure they would've applauded a Looney Tunes as well.
"We're fighting for this woman's honor, which is more than she ever did."
