Dietrich

Well I don't see Marlene Dietrich as any great beauty; in fact, I think her facial features are rather unattractive. She also had a very masculine-sounding voice, at least when she sang in this movie.

Yeah, I was grossed out by her. Reminded me of Sunset Blvd., where the former goddess actress woman was far from good looking also. But I suppose in those days, they were.

Irene Hervey, on the other hand, what a looker!

She wasn't the American girl next door type. So what. Some guys want more from a woman.

what did Jerry Lee Lewis say? "She broke my wheel but what a thrill, Goodness Gracious great balls of fire".

She looked like a tranny and her over plucked eyebrows were hard to look at.

I thought she was STUNNINGLY beautiful in this movie.

Years ago on Jack Benny's Sunday night radio program, Fräulein Dietrich and Tallulah Bankhead argued as to who would sing the bass line in a duet they were to sing. Their voices got deeper and deeper as they said, "No, dahling, I'LL sing bass."

She wasn't known for beauty really. She was fashionable through the clothes that she wore. Her husky voice sound humorous rather than sexy. What she had was screen presence. It's difficult to take your eyes off her when she's in a scene.
