Jimmy got her pregnant

didn't Stewart get Dietrich pregnant during this movie, forcing her to have an abortion ???

I'm going to get some flak over this, especially considering the fact no one has bothered to bump this since its initial post from nearly two years ago. But, in other areas of IMDb and even over at YouTube, one individual in particular who frequents both sites has often made much the same charge, even going so far as to say that Stewart "strong-armed" Deitrich into getting the abortion(!!!)

It's a preposterous claim to make because, at the time, Stewart was still new to Hollywood and had not yet achieved the kind of status he would acquire in the later years of his career. Deitrich gets top-billing in "Destry," NOT Stewart, for instance! How, pray tell, might Stewart "intimidate" Marlene Deitrich into aborting? Even if he DID have more clout than she (which he DIDN'T)???

If Stewart and Deitrich had a dalliance, that's no big surprise in itself. Neither is it impossible to imagine that Deitrich would find herself pregnant after such a liason. But I would suggest the liklihood that Deitrich, if impregnated by Stewart, either miscarried (and later claimed she aborted to embarrass Stewart) or actually carried out the abortion as a result of HER OWN decision making.

Marlene Deitrich was either a strong agnostic or an out-and-out atheist--so it only makes sense that her conscience wouldn't be inhibited enough doing what she felt she must to keep her career moving along SANS the problem of the "inconvenience" of bearing and rearing children as one can well imagine would be imposed upon that career.

This thread gets a post every 3 yrs. You're gettin' no flak from moi. I'm glad Stewart didn't pressure Dietrich into an abortion so your message and accompanying arguments are good news. The idea certainly militates against the good character which I have always associated with Stewart. I'm against abortion, but even if one isn't, surely it is bad form to pressure the mother of your unborn child into an abortion. Happens a lot these days, but you don't hear feminists getting too upset about it!

From what I've read about Dietrich, she got pregnant and got an abortion and never told Stewart about it, so he never even found got to know that she was pregnant, let alone had an abortion.

Yes, all the agnostics and atheists are immoral and those with faith like Catholic priests would not for example molest little childr...I mean those in faith would never kill... I mean...
