Destry Jr.

Has Jimmy Stewart played ANY role in any movie in which he wasn't a wimp (Destry Rides Again), a coward, a wuss, or am imbecile (Harvey)? If so, please name it.

reply

He isn't a wimp here, in fact Destry Jr is pretty badass. You seem to have misjudged him as easily as the town drunks.

Otherwise, James Stewart is also far from being a wuss in Rope and Winchester '73, he is distressed and cruel in the second half of Vertigo, plays a cynical small-town lawyer in Anatomy of a Murder and is a menacing patriarch in Shenandoah.

in the "Naked Spur" he hunted a man down for the bounty on him. He wanted the money so bad he could taste it.

In ''Malaya'' (1949) he doesn't look like wimp, he is good but serious, he even has a gun.

Spirit of Saint Louis, Two Rode Together, Strategic Air Command.

So..Because he doesn't wear a gun and carves napkin rings, makes him a wuss?

reply

3 years from the last post, but I am VERY surprised no one mentioned the role of Jeff Webster in The Far Country.

That character was rough and cynical...and in no way was a wimp, coward, wuss, or imbecile.

I've seen almost all of Stewart's movies, and I've never seen him play a wimp, a coward, a wuss, or an imbecile. You must have him confused with some other actor.
