Availability

As far as I can tell this movie is completely unavailable and has never been released. I would really like to see it, though, so I'll be checking the TCM schedule and posting when it is airing or if I ever see that it is released.

Jesus loves me, this I know...

Does any one have a copy of this film or know where one can be obtained? The copy offered at vintageclassicmovies is incomplete.

I got a copy of Daughters Courageous last week from rareclassicdvds.com. In fact, I just watched it for the first time tonight and the quality was great. I recommended checking the website out.

Thanks for the tip, but I actually just got a copy myself from www.moviesvideoman.bravehost.com (email: [email protected]). They too have lots of out of print films available for purchase and are worth checking out.

Octoberbest,

You're not going to believe this, but it's Claude Rains day on TCM.
The first up was "Four Daughters", which I really enjoyed and have seen many times. That was released in 1938.
Next up and I'm watching it now, but not for long, is "Daughter's Courageous".
That was released the following year 1939.

Very strange.
The one has a mother in the movie. The original never did.
Claude Rains is divorced from the mother played by Fay Bainter, and Bainter in the movie is engaged to be married.

John Garfield is in the movie, but has an Italian father.
It appears so far, I'm only about 1/2 hr into this, that all the same people are back with different names.
It's very strange.
No wonder you can't find it, it STINKS.
I'm very disappointed.

I bet you have a devil of a time watching any Three Stooges, Marx Brothers, Martin & Lewis, Bob Hope/Fred Astair movies. The same actors usaing different names, having different jobs and liv ing in different cities must make your poor little head hurt.

Daughters Courageous doesn't stink. It's actually a very good movie. Once you wrap you brain around the teensy, tiny, little fact that IT IS NOT A SEQUEL!!! Even though is has ten (yes count'em 10) of the same actors, the plot has absotivily, posilutely NOTHING to do with the Four Sisters movies.

Think of it as either a completely different movie or as a remake in the vein of Rio Bravo/El Dorado/Rio Lobo.

Now, having said all that, I think TCM made a HUGE mistake by broadcasting this movie between Four Daughters and Four Wives. For those unfamiliar with the Four Sisters trilogy it can become confusing. TCM should have shown DC first followed by at least two (three would have been even better) other movies before airing Four Daughters in order to cleanse the mental palate.
I DVRed all four movies and then watched this one last. A full day later in fact.

As I said elsewhere, ths movie can easily stand on its own. And for those who didn't care for the somewhat heavier tragedy/angst feeling of Four Daughters they should like this movie a littler better since it's as if the studio tweaked the story a little in order to make the fourth act more upbeat.
