Have you ever seen a person with a brain tumor with so much energy?

Wow, Hollywood of the late 1930's really makes having a brain tumor glamorous, doesn't it?

I've personally known two people who died of brain tumors.

One looked perfectly healthy, so people jeered at her for being a hypochondriac when she said she was getting headaches and had trouble getting a proper prescription for glasses. When she collapsed one day and ended up in the hospital, tests prompted them to do exploratory surgery. They were shocked to discover that the tumor had covered and displaced much of her brain. They were astonished that she could function so well. She told some relatives that saying, "I told you so" isn't very satisfying. She had stayed very active till her collapse, with no outward signs of her illness, but died soon after the surgery.

Another was a man who didn't have any signs at all. When he collapsed and died, the autopsy found the reason.

I spoke to the family doctor once, when they found a "shadow" in a scan on my mother. He said that, by the time most people start feeling pain, generally due to cranial pressure (because there is no sensation in the brain) and perhaps have vision or hearing problems, there isn't always an indication that they are ill. He said that tumors in the body also can be sneaky, with the person showing few or no outward signs till it progresses. (BTW: The shadow turned out to be a false alarm thank goodness!)

I am so sorry for your losses. Just reading them scares me.

I rarely get headaches, so when I DO get one, I always worry it's something more serious.
