What Happened To George Sanders' character?

I just saw this movie yesterday for the first time and had mixed reviews. My only reason for watching is that I'm a huge fan of Edward G, but he didn't come in until 45 minutes into the movie. I thought George Sanders was great as Schlager, and while they caught everyone in the group, did they ever say what happened to his character? Once Robinson's character enter the film, Sanders' character was never seen again. Anyone know what happened?

If you're still interested, a year and a half later.... Apparently, nothing happended to Schlager. He appears not to have returned to the US after his previous voyage and was never brought to justice, at least in the movie. A loose end, I grant you. But of course several of the bad guys got away.

nothing happened to him

I read in the annals of Kopecksney that he became an exotic nude dancer in little Joey Goebbels touring company of Bavarian side show freaks and pastry chefs.

No loose end. He had a job as ship Party leader. When the spy ring was broken, there was a scene in the movie when the German govt. urgently orders all ships away from dangerous areas. Presumably, that removed him from the story.
