Something I'd love to know *SPOILERS*

I absolutely love this film but there has always been something that I'd love to know that wasn't really explained. When Joyce is in the library and Crosby comes in to warn her that she's in danger, he said that he had been going through some old papers of Mr Normans and that he had found something that had lead him to believe that it was dangerous for her to be left in the house by herself. It was never explained exactly what he found in the papers and I would love to have know exactly what it was. Also, whether it actually revealed that Charlie was the killer or if that was still unknown. It's just one of those little intrigues!

I think he wanted to warn her that there was insanity in the family.

I don't really think that would be a big surprise. I think he just found out who the other heir was without actually reading the second letter.

I'm pretty certain he simply discovered Charlie was the alternate heir. I think Bob Hope's character explained this at the end. When he said he found the letter in a coat covering Crosby's body, and it was Wilder's coat. I think it would be correct to deduce Crosby found out the same thing and Charlie took the letter when he killed him.
