The cha-cha number with a mostly stationary black gentlemen imperceptibly pivoting on his shoe, just doing interesting things as he spins. Great stuff.
I also love the line "I won't stay in quarnatine. I don't care who catches it." that causes all of Myrna Loy's suitors to flee. Too funny.
I agree wholeheartedly about the dance number. There's something about the way that gentleman moves that captivates me. When my wife saw that scene, she said, "Forget the movie. I want to see more of that." As much as I like the movie, I have to agree. I'd love to see more of that couple dancing.
I checked the list of cast members and there were several specialty dancers listed, but in the Soundtrack list was this: "Siboney" Music by Ernesto Lecuona Danced by Renee & Stella
So with that, I went to Wikipedia and there is a list that says this song is named for a town in Cuba. Lots of reading here.
I'm watching the third film in the series and the dance number is similar to a number in the the movie "Dance With Me" starting Vanessa L. Williams. Her partner/man she loves at the end of the film is from Cuba and did a similar step. However, in this movie I didn't see the connection to Cuba until I read your post.
If we can save humanity, we become the caretakers of the world
I used to work at a large library and so I think of finding pieces of information like a treasure hunt ;) Glad I could add a clue (Cuba) to your treasure map ;)
This movie is a treasure in my book! as is that dance...and Nick...and Nora...and especially Asta!
