Mrs. H. Culverton Smith

Is Smitty's husband's name a little nod to the Sherlock Holmes story The Adventure of the Dying Detective? Or a coincidence?

When I watched the 4th season of Sherlock, the name of the villain Culverton Smith was so familiar. I didn't recognize it from the Sherlock Holmes story, but from Another Thin Man which I watched so many, many times.
