Sherlock Holmes: World's Least Competent Detective (SPOILERS)

A much more accurate title for this mess. Just look at the record:

The very first time we lay eyes on Holmes, he's too late with the evidence needed to convict Moriarty of murder.

Then he's too late to prevent the murder of his client's brother.

Finally, he's even too late to prevent the murder of his client! She escapes certain death only because she just happens to slip or faint or something (by this time, I was barely paying attention) at the exact moment the gaucho hurls his bolo. Lucky girl.

Conan Doyle must have twirled in his grave when this thing came out.

Exactly how I felt about just watching this. It almost felt like he was a bungling fool throughout the movie, quite the opposite of every other story, book, movie or tv show about him. Every piece of evidence or warning is given to him in advance and he somehow manages to use them in the least efficient manner possible.

Moreover, every one else also in this movie behaves in the most idiotic manner possible. The brother walking into an ominous area in the middle of the night despite being scared out of his wits that he was going to be murdered that very day. Wasn't he supposed to be rich enough to hire a small troop of bodyguards - or at least one for the day he's sure he'll be murdered. The friend following him at a distance instead of accompanying him with no good reason given for such an idiotic manner of protection; the sister seeming hardly affected by her beloved brother's death (except in the most movielike manner possible) and then following the same courses of action. And the number of mistakes made by Holmes would put Mr. Bean to shame.

Perhaps the first time I have swayed do far from a movie's overall imdb rating - this isn't much more than a 3/10 in my opinion.

It is odd how we the audience are let into Moriarity's plans over and over again so we can see how wrong and misguided Holmes is through out the film.

He doesn't immediately get the albatross note.

Seems out of character for Holmes that he had to research it to figure it out, and his client is the one who got it first.

I still love this movie.

If Holmes solved everything in the beginning of the story, or as in this case, movie...it would make for a pretty short book, or as in this case, movie...wouldn't you agree?
