When will this come to DVD?

This is one of my very favorite black'n white romantic comedies and was wondering if anyone knows when, if ever, this title will ever hit DVD or VHS.

I, too, have been looking for it for years. It really is one of the REALLY entertaining movies from that era, so I don't understand why the release on DVD is taking so long?

saw something on the french Amazon.com but then again, maybe it's dubbed in French??? Love this movie as well, really wish it was on DVD I want it!!!!

reply

Seriously, how can this not be. Ms Roger's non-Astaire movies seem to be unfairly ignored, they're not all gems but this and many others could easily get the box-set treatment.

if you're in the region 2 zone its been released in france but its the originalamerican movie, they just give you the option to either watch it with french subtitles and without subtitles. incidently the same people have released the entire rko library

Or, if you have a region-free, PAL converting DVD player.

It looks like there is also a third option for watching it dubbed in French, but I haven't tried clicking on the "Version francais" entry in the menu to confirm that's what it is.

For the non-French speakers (not that I'm anywhere close to fluent) planning on looking at that menu:

The French for "Original version without subtitles" is "Version originale sans sous-titres"

That probably wouldn't be too tough for an English speaker to figure out, so maybe the more important bit of French is the title, so that you can find it in the French amazon site (or whatever other e-tailers you might be looking at). The French title for this movie is Mariage Incognito ... which is not even remotely close to being a translation of the original title Vivacious Lady, but is more directly descriptive of the plot.

I'm not sure that the *entire* RKO library has been released. Certainly the Montpernasse (I think that's who it is) "RKO Collection" of DVDs is pretty sizable and includes a non-trivial number of movies that have not been released in Region 1.

The ones that I've had shipped across the Atlantic to me so far are this, The Stranger on the Third Floor, Blackbeard the Pirate, and Mademoiselle Fifi. Of those, Blackbeard is the only one that appears to have been sourced from a print that was used / modified for French theatrical release; the opening credits were replaced with a French language version and one shot of a short note passed between characters was replaced with a shot of a French version of the note. Even in that case, the subtitles were not burned in, so you could still watch the movie without subtitles. It just helps if you can work out that "Tuez le" means "Kill him". ;-)
