Trade Winds (1938) Joan Bennent

Can anyone inform me what happened to this film. I heard it was lost in a studio fire. If so, when? Which studio? All copies? And most importantly, does a copy exist?

Thank you for any information that you might have on this matter.

Don't know about a fire or whether it's lost or not but I have a copy made from a television broadcast years ago...(Horrible quality) Then found a website that was selling a "non-professional" cop on DVD. I bit and bought one that was not much better than the one I had copied on tape. The only plus was that it was the whole movie. The final credits have the eagle logo indicating that it was a Walter Wanger production. I am hoping that if all originals are lost that some day someone will be able to restore the copies that DO exist. It's a rather hokey studio rear-projection production using what I understand are home movies of Tay Garnett's world cruise. Great title song that appeals to us oldies that haven't heard real music in years. A really enjoyable minor classic of it's kind that ushered in Joan Bennet as the brunette she remained for the remainder of her career.

I'm about a year 8 months late replying to your response concerning TRADE WINDS.

Do you still have the DVD, and would you be interested in selling or burning a copy and selling it?

Your's was the only response I received since posting the query.

Since I am not very versed in computers, you may just respond by emailing me direct, [email protected], if you like.

Thank you.

If a dvd copy can be recorded when the movie shows on TCM on May 11, 2011, at above time, I would buy a copy. [email protected].

Thank you.
