This film is wild

Watching it right now on TCM. Heard and read about it for decades, finally seeing it for first time. Amazing Welles before Kane. Filmed in part at the old Washington Market on West St in Tribeca.

Watching it too...a lot of if not all of the buildings the rooftop chase scenes are shot on are gone....love the Woolworth building in the background.

There were a couple of shots of the long gone Singer building too. I didn't spot the Woolworth building but I started to nod out momentarily and maybe missed it. That really looked like Joseph Cotton running around on that pitched roof with no net below him. The last part with the fake palm trees was filmed at the New Jersey Palisades, filling in for a Cuban jungle.

I'm glad you two enjoyed it. I just finished watching it (I was watching Jane Eyre, and had to pause it a few times to take care of my dogs), and so got behind in time, and since I usually like silent films and artsy films, decided to give this a try after Jane Eyre ended. I'm very sorry I did. This was bizarre, not funny at all, and obviously I just don't get it. Nothing in this film made any sense beyond the first fifteen minutes. The music didn't help, either. Equally bizarre. And please don't say how this wasn't supposed to be a complete film. I get that. But to me that means not expecting an ending that ties things together, not sitting through abruptly cut scenes, scenes that make no sense, etc. I still expect the body of the film to flow cohesively, just not a "proper" ending. If that's not what was meant by "not a complete" film, then it should have been explained better that the whole film is incomplete, and just random, choppy shots of people running around, and making weird faces, and doing weird things with no rhyme or reason.
