Ready for her close-ups...

The make-up artist certainly overdid the mascara on Margaret Sullivan throughout the film to the point of distraction. Even when she was supposed to be dying, she was perfectly made up as though she just left the beauty parlor. The long eyelashes made her prettier than usual, but all of that make-up worked against her character.

Nothing at all wrong with her performance--I thought she was fine. But let's get real for a change. That's MGM in the '30s.
