Scenes (spoilers)

I thought this film had some great scenes and some excellent cinematography. The scene where Gottfried's killer is chased while Christmas music is playing was years ahead of its time. And I thought the scene where Margaret Sullivan arose from her hospital bed to go to the window used inventive angles. Another director might have focused on her face, leaving a standard, over-acted display of pain. However, I thought the final scene, where the two remaining friends are leaving the cemetery was cheesy, and typical of its time. To superimpose the two "ghosts" through double exposure cheapened what could have been another great scene. We don't need to see the ghosts, we know what the charactors are feeling. Think of the final scene in The Third Man, which was utterly haunting and yet quite simple. Still, I thought this was an excellent movie.

I liked that scene but maybe for different reasons. The killer smiled after shooting Gottfried; he was proud of himself, but when he was the intended target he was panic-stricken and terrified.

It's always like these creeps. He had no regard for life when he shot another person but when his life was in danger life suddenly had vital importance. I don't condone anyone killing anyone else; especially in a church, but that guy had it coming.
