Shoot low, men. They are riding Shetlands.

The actors play this straight and no reference is made to the entire cast being midgets. My theory is the director had a yearly quota of movies to make including a western. To keep from being bored to death he ordered up all midgets on the studio call list. The only thing irritating about the movie is that many of the actors have thick European accents, probably came over with the circus.

At the beginning of the film there's a blatant reference to the film featuring an all-midget cast. So it's obviously a novelty from the start. And really, there's no way to take this movie seriously. It's absolutely hilarious for what it is: an all-midget, black and white, western, musical. I definitely recommend this movie to anyone who has an obsession with midgets.

Many of the actors in this movie had later roles in the Wizard of Oz as Munchkins. So they were wise to strike while the iron was hot. Apparently, there was a demand by the public to see movies with dwarves and little people in general.

Some of the cast were talented singers, so why not give have the chance to make a living at what you like to do?

Life is never fair, and perhaps it is a good thing for most of us that it is not.

One of my favorite cult films is "Evil Roy Slade", starring the tall John Astin. Billy Curtis, the lead in this film, plays a little person detective.
One of my favorite lines is when Evil Roy takes Billy's shetland pony and heads to his girlfriend's house. As he rides up he shouts, "I would have been here earlier, darlin', but I was dragging my heels".
Billy Curtis played his part exceptionally well and totally straight. A ver good actor.

"Shoot low, men. They are riding Shetlands."

exactly what John Wayne would say.

I'd set my dvr to record "The Adventures of ozzie and harriet" that was supposed to be aired on a local (Hamptons, LI) station. This station's listings are never ever right. (Shame on them.)

I ended up with 37 minutes of this film.

Astor Studios... no wonder they're out of business. While it was funny, well, no comment.
