Ghastly presentation on TCM!

In the words of Gomer Pyle, "Shame! Shame! Shame!"

Turner Classic Movies aired Sweethearts on June 18, 2015. I recorded it and when I went to watch it I found that the top and bottom of the film's image was very badly cropped to fit widescreen televisions!

TCM, how could you do something so horrible?????

reply

I don't think you can blame TCM. I 'recorded' to DVR all the MacDonald-Eddy movies TCM aired yesterday in observance of Ms. MacDonald's birthday. I have a widescreen TV as well. On mine, all the movies came out just fine.

However, several huge storms came through while the movies were on air. The Emergency Broadcast Service interrupted two of the movies several times. One of them was Sweethearts. If you're on the east coast, perhaps that was the cause of your damaged movie.

reply

No, I live on the west coast of the United States. Thus I have no explanation for TCM's gaffe.

Could it be possible that you were running it on "zoom"? It was meant to be run in 4 by 3, or 1.33:1. Running it on "zoom" will fill the screen, but the image will be cropped on the top and bottom.
