'The SIsters' earthquake sequence

Does anyone know positively where the earthquake footage originated?
Some of it is obviously silent but does anyone know if Warner Brothers obtained stock/archive footage from M-G-M's earlier film "San Francisco"?
Seemed to me it looked awfully familiar although some of the really recognizable shots weren't used.
