I really love the Libby-Charlie relationship in this movie.

I really love the Libby-Charlie relationship in this movie, and how quickly they become like true family. Even after Libby moves way up in the world, and becomes a star, she doesn't make any attempt to pretend she doesn't know Charlie, and, in fact, does the exact opposite. It's really sweet and heartwarming (and also unexpected, as movies typically go the route, in stories along the lines of this one, that the new sensation goes out of their way to fully distance their self from any associations with the past). I very much appreciate all the various combinations of relationships depicted in this movie - the group of friends together, the landlady and her family (who become like a surrogate family, and vice versa, to Charlie, Libby, and their friends) - even the dog. This is a true gem, that beautifully depicts deep and genuine friendship, love, and devotion.

Hi genplant29,

I watched it on TCM last night and fell in love with it. It was truly a marvelou film, a little gem that few have seen. Vivien Leigh and Charles Laughton had so much on-screen chemistry that I wish them could have made more films together. She was spirited and luminous, he broke my heart. Vivien made GWTW the next year and you can see what a great talent she was from this wonderful movie.
