I'm not really familiar with Pagnol or this film, but I'm intrigued. I'm also surprised there's no discussion about this being shown, as it seems to be rarely seen. Perhaps too rarely seen...

Hi, mrmsmith. Just wondering what you thought of Le schpountz, if you did get the chance to watch it.

I really enjoyed the film, and was very impressed with it especially compared to Hollywood films of the same era. Since this was post-Hays code in the US, I was especially interested in the gay character. I really love classic film, and this is the earliest openly gay character that I've seen in a movie so far.

All that aside, I think the movie was very entertaining as a slapstick comedy with a bit of pathos thrown in for good measure.
