Hail and farewell!


This being 1938 I'm surprised the Marx Brothers and Lucy Ball would use a Nazi-reminiscent gesture other then to mock politics. The boys and Lucy too were all strongly anti-fascist. Of course the scene was totally apolitical but in context of the time it's a bit on the nose. Lucy especially does it perfectly.

Not sure if that was done on purpose.

However - if you hear when they do the actual play there is the use of "commrade" and it seems to be some capitalist vs. the workers theme to it.

I wonder if the stage version of ROOMSERVICE was had more overt political parts.
