Budget

I know it will probably be impossible to find out at this distance in time but how much did this film cost?
The sets, costumes, extras, camera shots, all shout money, I can imagine that in its time it was regarded as something of an epic!
If it was a major A film how much money did it make(or not)?
Looking at the edit I watched on London Live, I can see how out-takes from the original Pimpernel film(crowd scenes, night shots,stupendous sets e.g. going to see Robespierre, the Assembly, executions) could be intercut with the new cast doing the storyline. But it must have been a major release.
By the way does James Mason look like young Larry from some angles, or is it me?
