'I paint things hidden behind other things ... (spoilers)

To me a swimmer is already a drowned man". So says the artist Michel who later swims off to commit suicide himself. These lines go to the heart of the film. We are all walking into death; it's simply a matter of how and timing.

The film deals with issues relating to beauty and ugliness, their connection to morality, and killing which connects to the theme of death and mortality but in a different way. The conversation goes that everyone is killing something "You have to kill something"(Michel) because "C'est la vie"(Half Pint).

I can't pretend to understand the film after one viewing but these are some of the themes I grasped.

I'm not trying to break your heart,
I'm just trying hard not to fall apart
