I really enjopyed this movie!!

The murder reveal wasn't that great but this film and others like it are the reason I love TCM. The "B" movies with unknown actors & actresses along with famous stars who were just starting their careers ,often are far more entertaining than the big budget "A" features packed with studio super stars. Ann Sheridan who played the nurse & William Hopper one of the guest, were the only two I knew by face & name. I knew Ben Welden who played the stout guy with the toupee, only by face. He always plays a bad guy. Often a comical one. Nice to see him playing a good guy with a substantial part. I knew the two servants by face also. The maid ,played by Dennie Moore, is the actress that played the gossiping manicurist in 'The Women'. The chauffeur was played by Trevor Bardette, who was in a gazillion Western films & tv shows. The male lead ,Dick Purcell, should have played Spencer Tracy's brother at least once in a film. He resembles him a lot. Although he sounds like Ralph Bellamy.

*Elspeth Dudgeon who played the elderly aunt is known for her role in 'The Old Dark House'((1932) where she played a very old man & was billed as a man. Screen credit:John Dudgeon. It was her screen debut at age 61. It's another wonderful old movie and a million times better than the 1963 remake.

Me too. I've seen several of the Mignon Eberhart novel adaptations and I love the isolated house atmosphere, etc.

I agree but it could have been so much better. It's a great setting and plot but the acting and direction left a bit to be desired.

I've read the book that the film is based on and the book is definitely better. The story was dumbed down for the film, unfortunately. There was a lot more to it than what the film showed. Still, they did a great job of capturing the isolated location feel/setting.

The acting was fine. Lance O'Leary in this film was the Lance O'Leary of the books. Nurse Keate in the books did have a bit more spunk, but overall the actress did a good job of playing her.
