Very Enjoyable!

I DVR a lot of movies off TCM and picked this one mainly because I knew Katharine Hepburn had refused her role and bought out her contract at RKO to avoid being in this movie. So I wasn't expecting much, but I found it to be very watchable! Likable cast, and the females in particular stand out - Fay Bainter, Ruby Keeler, Anne Shirley, and Margaret Hamilton all do well in their roles. The men are less interesting and in fact I was not familiar with any of them except for Walter Brennan.

But overall, a nice way to spend an hour and a half. I also saw that "Summer Magic," with Hayley Mills, was a remake of this. I haven't seen that one in a long time but I do see some similarities. I think Burl Ives played the Walter Brennan character and Dorothy McGuire was the mother.
