If you liked The Mad Miss Manton and are looking for another classic film that has a similar comedy/mystery/thriller/newspaper vibe, I'd suggest Front-Page Woman with Bette Davis and George Brent. I don't often heard people talk about it as one of Bette's greatest films but I love it! It doesn't deserve being so obscure.

Davis and Brent are reporters for rival newspapers and they have a little romance going, but Brent is such a condescending jerk that they end up in a circulation race as each tries to dig up the clues and solve the latest sensational mystery.

Directed by Michael Curtiz, most famous for Casablanca.

I'd also like to include here Murder in the Blue Room (1944). This one takes place in a home in which a murder was committed 20 years earlier, in the Blue Room of the house. Three silly & talented female performers are invited to perform there during a party, and they get caught up in another mystery happening in the Blue Room. These three ladies decide to solve the case in their own.
