I've avoided these Andy Hardy films as I wasn't sure I could take a whole film with Mickey Rooney. I enjoyed some of his later, adult roles, but he was too manic for me in other, earlier roles.
I finally saw this film for the very first time and thought it had a lot of charm. Yes, it's corny, outdated, etc. but the exuberance really grabs you. Yes, Mickey is one of the biggest hams to ever grace the screen, but I found myself laughing quite a bit anyway. Not sure that I would sit through the whole series, but I'm glad I saw this one & got to see what the fuss was all about.

Which of his adult roles did you enjoy?

Mickey was definitely Mr. Exuberance, sometimes Mr. Way Too Exuberant, but he's winning here and not too out of control (other than when he's clapping for Judy's singing, in which case I thought his head might explode). The real star here is Judy, though, who is showcased nicely. Her singing is great, of course, but I was taken by her sweet and understated performance. For someone who was so young at the time, she's natural and charming. Lana Turner is pretty and pouty, but Judy gets a lot more to do as a Little Miss Fixit here.

So, is the idea that I would just randomly be perusing this site and then learn from you that I could tune in to TCM?

Was that pretty much it?

Perhaps the OP just wants to reach out for some sense of community.

I loved the whole series as a kid. Used to watch them all the time.
