Four Daughters; Four Wives; and Four Mothers Question

My family and I recently watched Four Daughters and were talking about the sequels that were made to the movie. I thought that I had heard somewhere that they were going to make the Four Mothers movie but it never happened, but then I looked it up on IMDB and sure enough there it was. So then I looked it up on Amazon to see if I could buy it and I couldn't find it anywhere. If anyone knows where I could maybe get the third movie I would be very grateful to know! Thanks!

Mulder: Do you know how many people have died in that apartment?

Landlord: We don't talk about that.

Very recently I found all these films available on Ebay. I think I paid about $15 for each. Four Daughters was the only of the three films commercially produced on video. The other two were taped off TCM. So if you don't mind having the films taped from TV, then I would suggest trying Ebay. They are all wonderful films, and one is better than the next- They should put all three on a boxed DVD set.

Yes why aren't these available on DVD!? They are classics. I've been trying to get Four Daughters for a loooong time. Just can't seem to find it here in Canada! It's one of my fav all time flicks.

They occasionally play on Turner Classic Movies, that's how I got mine, I taped them off the TV.

I taped Four Wives from Turner and I know Four Mothers is in their Library but I have never seen it on TCM. They occasionaly play Four Daughters, Four Wives and Daughters Courageous all together, but I've never seen Four Mothers. I guess I will keep looking. It's the only one I haven't seen and the first two are amoung my favorites. I even have a set of paper dolls from Four Mothers.

I can't find Four Wives on Amazon either. And they are only on VHS. Any idea if they are coming out on DVD anytime soon?

reply

Four Wives is not on VHS and never was. The only of the three films in this series that ever made it to video was the first, Four Daughters. The other two, Four Wives & Four Mothers were for whatever reason never put on video. This I have found is not uncommon with sequels. Deanna Durbin played the same character in 3 films: Three Smart Girls, Three Smart Girls Grow Up, Hers to Hold. Only the first 2 were released on video, and only the first title is now on DVD. These are also adorable films, and why they don't release them all on DVD is beyond me.

There is fourth film called "Daughters Courageous" 1939. This and "Four Wives" are for sale on DVD at Bestvideo.com They advertise Four Mothers on VHS but if you try to order it they don't have it. Perhaps they will in the future or perhaps it is coming in DVD. "Daughters Courageous" is not technically a sequel because it is a different story line. However, the main cast is the same. It is well made and many feel it is the best of the four Lane Sister films.

I enjoyed Daughters Courageous. I don't think it's better than Four Mothers and Four Wives though. I finally got Four Mothers and I was a bit dissapointed. I guess I am glad to have all three movies though.

Thanks for this. I recently saw Daughters Courageous for the first time after having seen the Four Daughters/Wives/Mothers and was really stumped as to where this fit in. It's the same cast, similar story but meant to stand alone. Odd timing and casting decision, but thoroughly enjoyable anyway.

Daughters Courageous is like an alternate universe where the same people exist but their lives are completely different.

And Priscilla Lane still ends up with the wrong guy! (in my opinion, but YMMV)

No wonder I have a soft spot for "Dust Be My Destiny"...(I'm just glad they didn't go for the original ending - Priscilla and John both die)
