Pretty bad

I just saw this one for the first time on TCM the other night. Dreadful.

See it if you are a fan of Carole Lombard, but only once!

Whatever, that movie was so funny! I loved it, Fernand Gravet is so handsome to, it's such a fun and romantic love story!

I am a big fan of Carole Lombard & had never seen this one until a couple weeks ago. I was so disappointed. It was awful. It was hard to even sit thru the entire thing. She is one of my favorites but even she could not save this turkey.

I couldn't agree more....VERY BAD, indeed!!!!!!!!

I watch some of these movies just to see what the actors looked like in their early days. Fernand Gravet is indeed very handsome and looks quite comfortable in his acting. Carole Lombard is always good and I was wondering about Marie Wilson. She sounds the same, but later on in future films she looks different. I think she altered her nose. Also, Ralph Bellamy, such a fine actor, always played a buffoon in his early films. Love him anyway.

HoferPM-1, i watched Carole and Ralph in another film yesterday, oh what was the name? She was a manicurist and he, as always, was the "Other Guy" (not a terrible place to be, he's like our day's James Marsden! In all the great films but never gets the girl!) he was in a wheelchair, i think it was her first teaming with Fred MacMurray(sp?) and i loved their chemistry in that one. He was definitely a fine, underrated actor, i discovered him in the 1980s when he was wonderful in a film with Eddie Murphy! I'm not even sure what his character is doing in this film, does anyone know? Her insurance agent-slash-sort of boyfriend? <--- Maybe that's part of why the film doesn't quite work, if anyone is as confused as i am :)

I am watching right now, i saw a photo of CL with Gloria Swanson on set when i was searching for a pic of the *beautiful* dress she wears at the party where Rene makes crepe suzette, and wondered if she was in the movie. When i saw the low rating, i thought "Oh, it's probably from people who hate all old, b/w movies", but you sound like someone who likes these films. I have been disappointed by the movies shown on her Day (Summer Under The Stars) on TCM this year, i didn't watch the more well-known films this time, thought i'd see some of her less known stuff, and it seems like she was put in a lot of cruddy flicks. She still shines though, like a diamond in a ... i am so sleepy i can't think of a funny word! LOL

Her costumes are wonderful at least! I'll keep watching, just to see Carole :)

The sets and costumes are wonderful. But I agree, it's a waste of talent.

Always the officiant, never the bride.

"Dreadful?" "Very bad?" Hardly!

Sure, better movies have been made, but this one has its charms. Anything with Carole Lombard in it is worth watching. Fernand Gravet, a French "import," speaks such impeccable English with almost no trace of a Continental accent that he probably could have gone on to play almost any type of role in any genre of film, but for the brevity of his stint in Hollywood (three movies.) Ralph Bellamy, as always, is fine in his "dumped boyfriend" part. Allen Jenkins was a good character actor who was equally adept in comedic, gangster and cop roles.

Aren't you and others in the "amen corner" being a little hard on this movie?
