What movie did they play this cartoon before in the theater?

They used to show this cartoon before they showed a certain Disney movie. Does anyone remember which one it was? I am thinking either "Pete's Dragon" or "Herbie The Love Bug," but it might be a different movie.

The cartoon is OLDER than Pete's Dragon and the Love Bug. So, it must have been with something else. The cartoon is from 1938.

It makes no difference that Ferdinand is older than those films. There is no rule that an animated short has to come out the same year as the feature film. For example, "Finding Nemo" came out in 2003, but "Knick Knack" originally came out in 1989.

It makes a big difference the way you asked the question. In 1938, this short could have (and did) play on the same bill as at least two-dozen A-feature films released that year...none of which came from Disney. And a few months after its initial release, it was playing on bills at second-run theatres along with a slew of B-feature films released that year. In other words, in 1938, there was no specific film that was tied to the showing of this 1938 short. It does make a difference. If you wanted to know what it was playing with 20-30 years later (on re-released tied to a Disney feature film), that should have been your question. The person you dissed was only trying to answer your question based on what this short played with on its Original-release year.

In the 70's (and maybe earlier?) Disney used to re-release their older shorts to be shown before their new features. For example, I remember seeing "Mickey's Circus" (1936) shown with "Robin Hood" (1973).
