Why was this remake made so soon after original

This movie is a remake of a movie of the same title that was made in 1930 (also a talky by the way). The original was given another title, "Flight Commander," at least in the USA. The plotlines of both movies are practically identical, so why the remake so soon?

Warner's was constantly recycling their film, remaking them. One reason: they already had the scripts. The Maltese Falcon was remade 2 or 3 times in a decade, They Drive by Night (1940) was a remake of Warner's Bordertown (1935). Two that come immediately to mind. So 8 years between The Dawn Patrol remakes is not uncommon.

same goes for modern-day spider-man and superman, no?

They made it to take advantage of the popularity of some of their new, hot stars, while recycling much of the flying footage to save money.
