Absurd but enjoyable

This film is beyond cliched! It brings new meaning to the term "melodrama".
The bombing sequence with Flynn during the conclusion is so over the top as to be unbelievable! Those tiny 50 pound bombs blowing up bridges, trains and factories! You can't be serious!

The spfx are superb but so over the top as to be ridiculous!

Excellent cast! Flynn - what can you say, perfection, Rathbone, the same and Niven, great as always.

I can't take this film seriously, sorry.

The clichés originated with the 1930 version, if not earlier.

The extreme melodrama-ness doesn't bother me much because after all, it was from 1938.

"Those tiny 50 pound bombs blowing up bridges, trains and factories! You can't be serious!"

It was explained before the mission that once a good hit was scored a chain reaction would be set off and the entire thing would ignite and blow up on its own. They were not depending on the six or eight small bombs to do all the damage by themselves.

There is a quote Niven uses after his brother 'Scotty" dies in his first flight into combat.
If I'm hearing correctly he calls Flynn a 'dirty God damn butcher' which I thought was stronger language than the film boards allowed.
