Oh well - Spoiler Alert

I enjoyed this movie; especially because at the end Tommy was finally free of his worthless father. I know it sounds horrible to say but the man had a serious problem. He was a selfish, self-centered, drunk who had no problem neglecting his wife and exploiting his child.

The man never learned from his mistakes. In fact, he only got worse over time. He was a blatant liar who couldn't keep his mouth shut. He didn't care how his words or actions affected anyone else; including his own son. He put Tommy to work at a young age then squandered everything he ever earned, forcing him to keep fighting longer than he had ever planned. His stupidity also caused Tommy to meet his idol and mentor in the ring; which led to the guys untimely death.

Had he lived, nothing would have changed. He would have been up to his same old tricks. Even after the latest incident, the kidnapping, he would have managed to get his son into yet another jam.
