Change Partners

I just saw this movie/dance number, and it has GOT to be the best one I've seen. Not because of the moves or anything, but because it shows JUST how well they move together. The beginning was absolutely breathtaking.

I loved the song as well. The way he sang it was so beautiful.

~Formerly known as "eowynmaiar".

I found that I really enjoyed that song as well. The most memorable scene in the film, I think.

"I know you're in there, Fagerstrom!"-Conan O'Brien

reply

No question this is the best number of the film --- nothing else comes close --- but there IS a shortage of songs altogether; wonder why. I always like how a song like this ends in such a sexually satisfying way.

And I might add that Ginger's dress was one of her best.

If anyone has this song, could they please send it to me?

"Eva Longoria must be a lesbian cause she married a woman."

i really like the way this song comes about and also the reprise with the dance, kinda reminded me of smoke gets in your eyes from roberta in the sense first you have the song and then you have the romantic dance, also demonstrates why fred was such a wonderful singer because he sings to the person (in this case ginger) rather than to an audience (like singers do today) and this makes his singing much more personal and delightful

reply

It really was. I never considered Fred much of a singer, but the moment he started this song I was just spellbound. It was the best song I've ever seen him do. I loved it.

Must you dance every dance with the same fortunate man?
You have danced with him since the music began.
Won't you change partners and dance with me?
Must you dance quite so close with your lips touching his face?
Can't you see
I'm longing to be in his place?
Won't you change partners and dance with me?

Ask him to sit this one out.
While you're alone,
I'll tell the waiter to tell
him he's wanted on the telephone.

You've been locked in his arms ever since heaven-knows-when.
Won't you change partners and then,
you may never want to change partners again.

I love the way it led into a scene described in the song (pulling her partner away by claiming he's wanted on the telephone).
