Weird things on Susan's head - hotel lobby scene

I thought something was wrong with the dvd when I was watching Bringing Up Baby. Susan's costumes were wonderful, but I couldn't figure out what those things were in her hair. . . they looked like starched ribbons. Never saw anything like that ever. Any ideas?

If you're talking about the scene in the Ritz Plaza (where Susan does tricks with olives), she's wearing a very sheer veil. Instead of allowing the veil to completely cover her head, she folds it in a certain way so it won't fall across her face. I had to go to church a lot as a kid, and the women were expected to cover their heads; many women opted for veils like that. If you look at this photo, you can see the veil has a distinct outer edge, or border -

Perhaps someone more knowledgable in the area of veils and/or costume design can identify the material used.

Thank you for posting the picture. . . this was not clear on the dvd I watched. Now I see what you mean and it makes sense. I never ever saw anything quite like that in real life.

Wow. I have always wondered what was up with the illusion that she had atoms circling her head. I was raised Catholic and the nuns used to bobby pin a facial tissue to the heads of the girls who forgot their beanies.
