No minorities?

Not even as extras in the film. Anyway I was wondering if the real Boys town allowed minority kids in the home?

reply

There were ethnic types throughout the groups of boys.
If you are talking about black kids in particular; none with a speaking role, but I saw one in the group when "Whitey" first comes to Boy's Town and gets off the bus, and then several in the group scene where all the boys are praying for "Pee Wee."

There was an Indian, during the dinner scene where each boy said his own prayer, according to his religious beliefs. They showed a close-up shot of a Hindu, or Muslim, or some sort of eastern religion.

Even though they said all creeds were accepted, this was still 1938.

What was the ethnic makeup of Nebraska during the time period?
